Nicholas Elias Wallace

Pvt. Army, Company B, 150 Infantry Regiment, 38th Division
Born  05/01/1896,  Trade, TN to Jordan Wallace and Nancy Emma Martin

Pvt. Wallace was a farmer before enlisting on 07/14/1918.  His unit, the 38th Division was known as the "Cyclone Division" because of a spring tornado which struck Camp Shelby with enough force it damaged the tent city and killed a soldier.  The 38th Division landed in Europe in October 1918 and saw action in the fall offensives.  105 men died in combat - 47 from wounds and 81 from complications from influenza or pneumonia.  Pvt. Wallace died of pneumonia on 10/16/1918 and is buried in Sureseres American Cemetery, Suresnes, France.  He was 22.
