Cultural Heritage Plein Air Event

Johnson County Center for the Arts is pleased to sponsor the 3rd annual Cultural Heritage Plein Air Event. The show will open with a reception for artists and Wet Paint Sale on October 4th from 4:00-6:00. Light refreshments will be served, and we'll enjoy live music. The show will be on display throughout the month of October.


  • Artists may enter up to three works by dropping them off at the Center for the Arts by noon Saturday, September 28th.
  • Registration fee is $25 for up to three entries and $10 per entry for youth.
  • Works should depict one of the thirty-one cultural heritage sites listed in the ‘Johnson County-A Cultural Heritage Map’ brochure, which is available at the Center for the Arts and mailed out upon request.
  • All works entered must have been completed outdoors en plein air. Minor adjustments in the studio are allowed.
  • Works must have been completed within the past year.
  • All work must be framed and ready to hang or display.
  • Artwork may be priced for sale or marked for display only. The Center for the Arts retains a 20% commission on all sales.
  • All works must be family friendly.

1st, 2nd and 3rd place specialty ribbons and monetary prizes will be awarded for:

Adult 1st Place- $250

Adult 2nd Place- $150

Adult 3rd Place- $100

Youth (under 16) 1st Place- $100

Youth (under 16) 2nd Place- $75

Youth (under 16) 3rd Place- $50


Each adult and youth winner will receive a cash prize, an award ribbon and a copy of "Fine Art Tips with Lori McNee-Painting Techniques & Professional Advice".
