Born March 10 1921 to James Lee and Lillie Linda Greer Price, Butler, TN
Died November 13, 1942

Price was assigned to the USS Juneau, a destroyer.  The Juneau was just eight months in service when she was mortally wounded in her second major action in the Battle of Guadalcanal.  This battle marked the end of Japanese aggtession to the south.

Badly crippled by a torpedo from a Japanese submarine,  the Juneau was forced to retire from the action.  Later the same day, the Juneau was again hit in the same weakened frame and sank in seconds after a massive explosion.  100 sailors survived the sinking, but in the 8 days until their rescue, 90 more sailors died from exposure and shark attacks.

The final casualty count for the ship was 684 sailor dead or missing.  SFC Price was one of the missing in action on November 13, 1942.

He was awarded the Purple Heart and is memorialized in the Manila American Cemetery, Fort Bonifacio Manila, Philippines and has a memorial stone in the Price cemetery on Buntontown Road, Butler, TN
