Hodge enlisted August 5, 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, GA and landed overseas in April 1943. He was killed in action on July 3, 1944 while serving in the Italian campaign with the 5th Army.
He was awarded the Purple Heart and is buried in Rich Mountain Church Cemetery, Boone NC.
