Wilson enlisted on January 1, 1950 and after training at Fort Dix, NJ and Fort Belvoir, VA and then was transferred to Korea on September 10, 1950. With the success of the Inchon landing behind the unit the 35th Infantry Regiment was the North Korean units from the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula.
By the end of September 1944 they had captured Kunsan on the west coast and by November had moved north and assembled along the 38th Parallel at Kaesong where the Division continued to take out enemy units,
The 35th moved to the front line north of Pyongyang at Anju near the western coast of the Korean Peninsula and on November 24 they launched an offensive while at the same time, the Chinese Communists had entered the war, launching a major offensive.
It was during this offensive that PFC Wilson, a Light Weapons Infantryman, was captured on November 27, 1950 and died while a POW on February 8, 1951
PFC Wilson was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Prisoner of War Meal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea Service Medal and is buried in the Holy Hill Cemetery, Mountain City, TN
