Born September 3, 1923 to Benjamin Franklin and Ida Gentry of Shady Valley, TN
Died November 30, 1944

​Gentry enlisted December 2, 1942 at Fort Oglethorpe, GA and took his training at Camp Howze, TX.  His unit the 103rd Infantry Division deployed for Europe arriving late October 1944 at Marseilles, France.   In November they relieved the 3rd Division at Chevry, and attacked west of St. Die in the drive through the Vosges Mountains.  Meeting heavy resistance all the way, they crossed the Meurthe River and took S. Die, and Diefenback .  It was during this offensive that Sgt Gentry was killed in action on November 30, 1944.

​He received the Purple Heart and is buried in the Snyder Cemetery, Johnson County TN.
