Born June 27, 1923 in Buntontown, TN.  Parents unknown
KIA July 27, 1944

Evans' unit the 2nd Infantry Division, after training in Ireland and Wales, crossed the channel to land on Omaha Beach on D Day plus 1 - June 7, 1944 near St. Laurent-sur-Mer.  Attacking acfoss the Aure River, the Division liberated the town of Trevieres on June 10 and proceeded to assault and secure Hill 192 - the key enemy strongpoint on the road to St. Lo.  they defended the Hill until July 26 when they advance across the Vire to take Tinchebray - during this assault Private Evans was killed in action on July 27, 1944.  He received the Purple Heart and is buried at Buntontown Cemetery, Butler, TN
