Barry enlisted 5/1/1942. Following training, his unit, the 36th – also known as the “Texas” Division landed in North Africa in April 1943. They saw their first WW 2 combat in September 1943 in Salerno Silicily. By 1944 they were in Anzio helping to spearhead the Allied campaign to drive German and Italian forces from the continent. It was at the fighting at Monte Cassinoino that Sgt. Barry lost his life.
