In the arts, Temple has taught classes and provided art supplies to children through many projects. She developed the Sunshine and Smiles Program and did a series of "Budding Artists" as well as workshops and classes for children and adults, has worked with the Arts Council to provide over twenty scholarships to graduating seniors and was honored by the Johnson County Arts Council in 2015 with over 15 years of service. Most recently, Temple is serving on the original board of Long Journey Home and the newly formed board for the Johnson County Center for the Arts as well as creating art of her own. Temple was chosen to paint an ornament for TN First Lady Haslam and most recently completed a painting of the Old Mill Music Park to be featured on a fund raising ornament for the center for the Arts. She was honored with 3rd place Best in Show at the Long Journey Home Art Show in 2016. In the LJH Art Show for 2017, she received a Chamber of Commerce Award, Danny Herman Traveler's Award, an Ed Cook Memorial Award as well as a People's Choice Award for her painting of the Old Mill Music Park/Peavine Railroad Station. Temple was a featured artist of the JCAC Art in the Garden and has placed 1st and 2nd in Johnson County Art Shows in the past. She has art work in the homes and business of many and enjoys using her art to help make other's lives better.
Temple is the wife of Johnson County Sheriff, Mike Reece. She has a son Kenny, son Johnny and his wife April and step daughter Mikah. They have four grandchildren, Madisyn, Lillian, Macie and Fields. Family is so important in Temple's life and she enjoys spending time with them, caring for them and being an important part of their lives. Temple is the oldest of seven children and her parents Earnest and Shirley Odom have been supportive and passed down their talents and love of people and of God. Temple has a strong faith in God and is a long time member of Dewey Christian Church. She has many friends and values the difference they make in her life.
Temple is a nationally certified, State of TN Licensed Counselor and Certified Criminal
Justice Specialist with over 20 years counseling background (LADAC,NCAC 11, CCJS credentials) and is currently in customer service at Johnson County Bank where she has been employed for the past 14 years. Her values, integrity, caring spirit and willingness to work hard have been a positive influence in the workplace, community and the art community most of her life. Temple has served as President of many organizations such as Kiwanis, Civitan, Positive Thinkers Women's Civic Club, Johnson County Arts Council and the Johnson County Community Hospital Foundation and has been a board member of Heritage Hall, United Way of Johnson County and Relay for Life among others. She has organized runs for Shane, Frankie and Emily to raise money for those affected by cancer and organized the Copperhead Road runs in memory of her Dad and other events for the Johnson County Cancer Support Group. She served as Chair of the Taste of the Mountains event which raised over 40,000 for the Johnson County Community Hospital Foundation, she received the Rotary Club Volunteer of the Year Award, the Johnson County Chamber of Commerce Mary Ahrends Volunteer of the Year Award and the Civitan of the Year Award. Her hobbies include photography, decorating, practicing yoga, walking and hiking. She has participated in 5k events, including Girls of the Run with her granddaughters and ran a half marathon for Niswonger Children's Hospital.
Temple is excited to work with Cristy Dunn and the Board to make the dream of an Arts Center a reality. "It is a project that will benefit not only artists of the present and future but the community as whole. It is a wonderful adventure!"
