The Snyders Gardens
268 Sunset Drive
Mountain City, TN 37683

These are not your typical foundation plantings but rather elegant shrub and perennial gardens that encircle this lovely brick home with continuous color and texture.  Additional portions of this in-town acreage include a wildly colorful zinnia patch, a newly installed island bed, and a clever wall-mounted trellis.

The Moodys Kitchen & Cottage Gardens
1064 Jenkins Hollow Road
Mountain City, TN 37683

Follow grassy pathways through sunny mixed shrub and perennial gardens or cool off in the shade garden beneath a towering hemlock. Enjoy the heady scent of the lavender border and meander amongst the flowers, vegetables and herbs of the potager-style kitchen garden.

The Miller Whimsical Garden
250 Eller Road
Mountain City, TN 37683

Irises, daylilies, hostas, and other perennials grace the sunny fence lines and pocket gardens of this somewhat sloped home garden. Also springing up happily are several gnomes, bunnies, and intriguing fantastical creatures. See if you can count them all.  There are a few parking spaces in the driveway but mostly along the roadside.

The Golding Laurel River
8265 Hwy 91N
Laurel Bloomery, TN 37680

From blackberries to bridges, from rushing waters to Russian sage, this quintessential homeplace has it all. Stroll over two acres along the Laurel River and enjoy beds featuring a wide variety of perennials, shrubs, and trees. River rocks edge many beds and an expanse of lawn is a cool green carpet underfoot.  Please note the gravel driveway near the farmhouse is a shared driveway; do not park on the gravel.

The LaBonne Hilltop Gardens
137 Wilderness Trail
Butler, TN 37640

A short hike up the gravel drive from the parking area below (in the grass along the lower part of the driveway) will get you to a series of gardens highlighted by the rich blue backdrop of the house and garage. Note the careful placement of specimen plants and collections of interesting varieties in both sun and shade.  Jan’s Garden Journal is a clever way of noting plant characteristics even when not in leaf or bloom. To see more of Jan’s gardening work, stop by the Museum of Butler at 123 Selma Curtis Rd, Butler, TN.

The Meyers Henderson Gardens
264 Sunset Drive
Mountain City, TN 37683

These recently established gardens feature edibles including fruit trees and a host of berries and medicinal plants like elderberry.  There are also pollinator plants to keep the bees and butterflies happy.  Using only natural and organic means like bone meal and organic compost tea, the soil receives much-needed nourishment and an immune boost.
